REMINGTOR "SLICER" - Shot Breakdown

I did this many years ago.  It was a fun job.  I was assigned the ownership of this shot (to create the effect of truck being sliced) by the lead flame on the job, David Elkins, then Director of Visual Effects at Spontaneous/NY.  All done in 2D/fame with no 3D involved. I hand-animated the sliced parts of the truck to mimic the weighty feel that would be caused by the gravity and would make them fall a certain way in real life.  Created the suspension bounce on the wheel as would happen in real life, as after losing a good chunk the gravity would pull the truck of that much mass right up against the slicer.  Created the effect of sparks causing all those reflections on the high-lighted/bright parts of the truck. The flying sparks were all 2D plates (from an elements reel) manually tracked to the blade' movement.  Lots of re-lighting, creating fake casting shadows, creating weathered look of the truck so it doesn't look like a scale model.  Added lighting on the side surfaces of the truck to get the look/feel of slightly warped sheet metal, etc, as it would be in real life.

And then, the inevitable... I remember clients going back to the offline for revs and the original shot/plate ended up with a speed change applied to it (after all the VFX work that had already been done in online :)  I remember having to re-track/animate everything :)
